2023 m. lapkričio 9 d. 17:30 val. VDA Telšių galerijoje (Kęstučio g. 3-2) – tekstilės menininkių Marijos Žiemytės, Devos Bartninkaitės, Sinaimos Kontautės parodos „Zoetropas” atidarymas. Paroda veiks iki gruodžio 2 d.
Šioje parodoje trys jaunos tekstilės menininkės užduoda klausimą, kuris dažnai sukasi mūsų mintyse, sutrikdydamas kasdienybės rutiną. Pasikartojančius individualių ir pasaulinių įvykių modelius galima prilyginti zoetropui – senoviniam kino filmų pirmtakui. Jis vadinamas „gyvybės ratu“, nes jo pagalba galime stebėti, kaip statiški vaizdai atgyja. Gyvenimo rate stebime filmą be pradžios ir pabaigos. Marija Žiemytė, Deva Bartninkaitė ir Sinaima Kontautė atspindi XXI a. kolektyvinį nerimą ir savo paroda klausia: kas toliau?
Per instaliuotų objektų parodą, patiriamą visais pojūčiais, žiūrovas kviečiamas pažvelgti į savo ir gamtos santykį. Menininkės jungia archajiškas ir šiuolaikines technologijas, taip pabrėždamos pereinamąjį etapą tarp seno ir naujo. S. Kontautės darbai apima instaliacijas, kuriose naudojamos tokios medžiagos kaip gyvūnų kaulai, urbanistinės liekanos ir jos pačios kūnas videoperformanse „Būties (Ne)Darna”.
Devos Bartninkaitės kūriniuose video tampa antrine žaliava. Tamsoje, tarsi kino ekranuose, stebime iš VHS kasečių išaustus paveikslus. Pirminė juostose esanti informacija nebegali pasiekti žiūrovo. Technologija, kuri nebenaudojama ir pasenusi, tampa nauja vaizdine patirtimi. Taip menininkė subtiliai priartėja prie informacijos tvarumo ir išliekamumo klausimų.
Marijos Žiemytės dėmesys bičių gyvenimui instaliacijose ir videomeno kūrinyje papildo parodos patirtį viltimi, vedančia į pasaulio sutvėrimo apmąstymus. Tai menininkės siekis atrasti kasdienybėje dieviškumą, todėl pasitelkdama bičių ir jų tveriamų korių simboliką. Bitės, be jokių pastangų ir apmąstymų, net nežinodamos, kuris dabar amžius, be jokio nerimo, spontaniškai ir iš prigimties kuria tobulus kūrinius.
Drąsiai ir subtiliai apie nežinomybę, laikinumą ir dieviškumą tiesiai kalbantys trijų menininkių kūriniai papildo vienas kitą ir susilieja į patirčių spiralę, atspindinčią šiuolaikinio žmogaus būties kelionę, kurią žiūrovas gali atpažinti savyje.

In this exhibition, three young textile artists ask a question that often hovers in the back of our minds, disrupting our daily routine. The recurring patterns of individual and global events can be likened to the zoetrope, the ancient precursor of the motion picture. It is called the „circle of life” because it allows us to watch static images come to life. In the circle of life, we watch a film without beginning or end. Marija Žiemytė, Deva Bartininkaitė and Sinaima Kontautė reflect the collective anxiety of the 21st century and their exhibition asks: what next?
Through an exhibition of installed objects, experienced with all the senses, the viewer is invited to look at the relationship between themselves and nature. The artists combine archaic and contemporary technologies to highlight the transitional phase between the old and the new. Sinaima Kontautė’s works include installations using materials such as animal bones, urban remains and her own body in the video performance „Being (Dis)Harmony”.
In Deva Bartninkaitė’s works, video becomes a secondary raw material. In the darkness, as if on a cinema screen, we observe images cut from VHS tapes. The original information on the tapes can no longer reach the viewer. A technology that is no longer used and obsolete becomes a new visual experience. In this way, the artist subtly approaches the questions of the sustainability and endurance of information.
Marija Žiemytė’s focus on the life of bees in her installations and video art adds a sense of hope to the experience of the exhibition, leading to a reflection on the creation of the world. It is the artist’s aspiration to discover the divine in the everyday, and she uses the symbolism of bees and the combs they create. Bees, without any effort or thought, without even knowing what century it is, without any anxiety, spontaneously and naturally create perfect creations.
Boldly and subtly speaking directly about the unknown, the transient and the divine, the three artists’ works complement each other and merge into a spiral of experience that reflects the journey of being a modern human being, which the viewer can recognise in themselves.
